What is Chin Advancement & Chin Implant?
A recessed chin can be made more prominent to create harmony with the rest of the facial features.
The most common method is chin augmentation by which a medical grade silicone is tailored to suit one’s face. This individually-fit implant is then placed securely on top of the chin bone. The entire procedure is performed using local anesthesia and is usually over within an hour.
Chin advancement using the patient’s own bone is another way of enhancing the lower part of one’s face. The surgeon horizontally cuts the bottom part of the chin bone, slides it forward, and secures it in the new position with medical grade screws. This method is done using general anesthesia. After surgery, the patient will be closely monitored in the hospital for about two days, after which he/she may be discharged with instruction to follow up in about 7 days.
